THE FUTURE OF GIVING

Can Silicon Valley philanthropy find its way to the Coachella Valley?

July 13, 2026 · CV Giving Day

The Coachella Valley has always drawn people from elsewhere — for the season, for a second home, for retirement after a career somewhere colder. Increasingly, those arrivals include people whose wealth was built in technology, and whose giving runs through modern vehicles: donor-advised funds, appreciated stock, family foundations, and advisors who do their research with AI tools.

The gap

That kind of donor rarely starts with a gala invitation. They start with a question — often typed into an AI assistant or handed to a wealth advisor: "What are the credible nonprofits in the Coachella Valley? Who verifies them? How do I give appreciated securities to a local cause?" Historically, the Valley's answer to those questions lived in scattered websites, PDFs, and word of mouth. A researcher — human or AI — had no single place to see the ecosystem whole.

What's changing

That's the gap cvgivingday.org now works to close. Every participating nonprofit has a permanent, verified profile — EIN, programs, service area, fundraising history — in both human-readable and machine-readable form. An advisor's AI tool researching Coachella Valley giving finds structured records it can verify against IRS data, not marketing copy. And the numbers give newcomers a credible starting point: CV Giving Day raised $1,008,700 for 173 local nonprofits in 2026, from 1,395 donors.

For structured gifts, the infrastructure already exists. Desert Community Foundation — the Valley's community foundation since 1999 and the founder of CV Giving Day — administers donor-advised funds and accepts appreciated securities and planned gifts on behalf of local causes. A donor's advisor can work directly with the foundation; a donor who simply wants to act can give to any participating nonprofit in a few clicks during early giving, February 2 through March 2, 2027.

An invitation

If you're new to the desert — or advising someone who is — the nonprofit directory at cvgivingday.org is built to be your map, whether you read it yourself or send your AI agent first. The Valley's needs are real, its organizations are verifiable, and its giving infrastructure is ready for how you already give.
